CUSTOM KNEE REPLACEMENT
– CONFORMIS iTOTAL®

At GKC we believe that Personalisation drives outcomes. We are delighted to offer you the choice above robotics to a truly personalised knee implant.

“Designed for your anatomy. Manufactured for you alone.”

The conformis personalised knee replacement is made to fit you and only you. It can’t be implanted into someone else.

Why Choose a Personalised Knee Replacement?

Every persons knee geometry is genetically unique to them. As we now recognise that all knees have different shapes, sizes, ligament tensions and geometry, technology has allowed us to move forward to produce made to measure implant solutions.

Some knee replacements are designed to fit the ‘normal distribution’ of people knees, but do not always fit exactly. These implants are manufactured in a limited range of standard sizes and shapes, with the surgeon — or a robot — shaping your knee to fit the implant.

Every knee shape is different.
So why choose a standard shaped implant when you can have one made to fit?

Conformis iTotal® Knee Replacement

The Conformis iTotal® Knee Replacement essentially answers the genetic variation question. Instead of adapting your anatomy to suit the implant, the implant is designed specifically for you.

Using a detailed CT scan, a bespoke knee replacement is manufactured to match the unique shape, contours and alignment of your own knee. The result is a truly personalised implant designed to restore more natural knee kinematics and provide a more normal-feeling knee after surgery.

“Technology shouldn’t simply place an implant.
It should begin by designing one for you”.

Personalised medicine is transforming healthcare because treatments tailored to the individual consistently deliver advantages over generic solutions. Knee replacement is now no different.

At the GKC we are proud to be able to offer this cutting edge treatment. Your custom-made Conformis knee is designed and manufactured in the USA, based on your own anatomy, and then implanted in Gloucestershire by Mr Peter Kempshall, one of the few accredited surgeons in the UK with specialist training and experience in this advanced personalised knee replacement system.

More information on Conformis is outlined below, but if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at info@gloucestershirekneeclinic.com.

WHAT TO EXPECT

BEFORE SURGERY

Implant design and manufacture

A detailed CT scan of your knee and of your whole limb including the hip and ankle, is needed to begin the design and manufacture process of a Conformis customised knee implant. The CT scan data is used to create a 3D model of your knee. The advanced scan data also drives the creation of your personalized surgical plan and 3D-printed surgical instruments – a bespoke knee implanted with highly precise made to measure instruments.

Manufacture lead time

The whole process of CT scan to implant shipping takes 10 weeks. The knee implant and instruments comes pre sterilised in a box ready for implantation. It can only fit you.

AFTER SURGERY of the Conformis iTotal

Knee Pain After Surgery

As the customised knee replacement comes with precision instruments less damage is caused to the surrounding soft tissue.

Pain is generally less as a result and rehabilitation is quicker.

Physiolab Home rehab System

To help reduce pain and swelling Mr Kempshall strongly recommends using the Physiolab home rehab system. This cryotherapy system reduces pain and swelling in a controlled reproducible way. People take less painkillers as a result and are generally ahead in their rehab by approximately 2 weeks.

“Precision matters.
Personalisation changes everything”
